Mission 4 - Siphoning of Stars
Location: Captains ready room | USS Concord
Captain Tyler Driskill let out a long sigh as he leaned back in his chair. The USS Concord was traveling side by side with the Khelvari science vessel at warp five. A warp factor Tyler was sure their new friends considered a very slow speed. However Captain Driskill was trying to manage resources wisely in case the Khelvari technology didn’t work with their systems.
Leaning back up and taking a drink from the mug of coffee he had been enjoying while working into the evening. Tyler put his mug down and put his elbow on his desk and his hand under his chin as to support his head. Letting out a yawn he decided he better make his log entry and started with the typical “Captains log” followed by the star date and all the official information. “The Khelvari and their technology are both quite fascinating. Speaker var-Khel and her people think our technology can be modified to utilize their technology. Which will get us back on track to Voyager and then back to the Alpha Quadrant, back to Earth, back home.” Tyler took a few deep breaths, a lonely silence filled the room.
The Captain had finished off the warm beverage from the mug on his desk. A clear glass mug, with a metal handle, the United Federation of Planets insignia etched into the clear glass mug. “I only hope Captain Janeway and her crew are well and that we can get them home soon. There it is again, the word home and how much home means to so many men and women in Starfleet.” He had made it to the replicator and placed the mug in the replicator to be recycled and with a beep and a shimmer of light the mug had been broken down and stored.
“We have sent medical supplies to the Khelvari science vessel and our Assistant Chief Medical Officer, doctor Amanda Clark is aboard. She has been instructed to help the Khelvari with the medical supplies that were transported over. I’ve also asked her to collect any data she could, information they provided, scans or even observations of their behavior.”
“Other than that they were only interested in maps and data we had collected in the Delta Quadrent. The Representative also wanted her and her people to be able to spend some time around members of our crew. They seemed very interested in the diversity in the species of the crew of the Concord. In-fact Speaker var-Khel and I enjoyed a meal together, joined by several of the ships senior staff. The ships Chief Medical Officer Doctor Roan, Lieutenant Nixie Wilde and Lieutenant Commander Gulati, who had been spending quite a bit of time with the speaker.
Captain Driskill blinked a few times as he came out of a daze, watching the stars stream by at warp speeds. He was leaned onto the bulkhead by his elbow. Seeing the smile on his reflections face, Tyler ran his hands through his hair. Looking down at the floor he shook his head and yawned and it was at that time the Captain decided he needed or at least wanted another mug of coffee. It only took a few steps and Tyler was pressing in his coffee order and again he was sipping from a glass mug with the UFP logo.
“Where was I” Captain Driskill asked as he took a seat on the sofa in front of the view ports. Of course he didn’t expect an answer as there was no one else in the room. He let out another yawn and then got some of his coffee down we find some of the Khelvari science ship’s technology superior to that of the Concord and much of it is on par with ours. Unless our scans deceive us both the Khelvari defensive and offensive capabilities are on level with the Concords. Sadly for all their success and advances their medical technology and medical sciences are at a disadvantage.
“As a people the Khelvari seem to be friendly and follow a Speaker that as far as I can tell leads a single ship or maybe even a small contingent of vessels. The Khelvari vessel we have encountered has been reported as a science vessel and we have no reason to believe otherwise.”
Shifting in his seat the Captain pondered a moment and then continued his log “although I am very curious as to why a people who can travel at such high speeds were interested in the data that Starfleet had on the Delta Quadrant. Of course it’s just speculation but perhaps it’s because our sensors are slightly more advanced or perhaps they are just curious to what we have learned about their home quadrant.” Tyler took a sip from his beverage “the Speaker did mention they had estimated they had explored about half of the Delta Quadrant and about eighty percent of the space they claimed as their own. From what they had been told the Khelvari hadn’t been involved in any war or major conflict in fifty years. The Speaker did mention run ins with the Borg, which I would find odd since they are stationed in the same quadrant the Borg originated from. Well as far as the Federation is aware.”
“I took the time to visit the ten forward last night and meet the lounge manager, Nis Meadows” Tyler adjusted in his seat and a smile crossed his face “I enjoyed our conversation and when she served me warm milk with honey.” Letting out a pleasant sigh “it was a nostalgic moment as my mother had given me warm milk sometimes as a young boy. Miss Meadows is putting together a mixer in honor of our guest.” Captain Driskill paused as he got up but turned and watched the stars zip by once more and continued “the entire crew is welcome and of course the senior staff are expected to make an appearance.”
Turning to make his way back to the bridge the Captain requested the computer “end log.” With a confirmation beep from the computer be knew his log entry had been saved. “Back at it” he stood tall and tugged his uniform jacket slightly, put on his best diplomatic smile and took the steps back onto the bridge.
