Mission: Mission 4 - Siphoning of Stars
Location: Khelvari Science Vessel

ON:

As soon as the Captain left the briefing room, Joseph stood up and looked to the others. It had been a while since he had led a proper away team. He spoke “who’s up for a quick jaunt to our new friends ship?” He offered a grin to them as he asked.

Tyler Rehman was practically bouncing out of his chair with the opportunity to leave. After the whole thing with the Borg, he was looking forward to an away mission that wouldn't cause his death or even worse, assimilation. "I'm ready to go," Rehman said as he finally stood.

Joseph perked his brow a bit and grinned a bit with a shake of his head. He spoke up "Alright then Lieutenant. Meet me in Transporter Room 1 in ten minutes." Before he gathered his PADD and headed for the door.

—

Doctor Clark had been called on the away mission, it didn’t happen often, but she figured the Chief Medical Officer had other duties to attend to. It didn’t take her long to arrive and enter transporter room one. Not knowing anything but that she was to accompany Lieutenant Commander Sledge for an away mission to the Khelvari vessel. Of course she knew she was to obtain information, assist with any medical needs and help the aliens with supplies and what not. She was a little nervous but stood with PaDD in hand ready for her duty, but being the first one to strive kind of sucked.

T'Lar collected the PADD she brought with her to the briefing and slowly stood. She was making a mental note of equipment needs, priority away team members and protocols for away missions to unknown alien ships.

Amanda smiled at T’Lar when she entered the transporter room “you ready for this?” She asked the woman in charge of the safety of the officer on the away mission.

The Half Vulcan raised a single brow. "Indeed." She checked the charge and setting on her phaser, ensuring it was set to stun. "I am quite well versed in away team security protocols."

“I’m… I’m sure you are and I feel safe with you” was all the doctor said.

Rehman entered the transporter room, whistling. He had his kit swung over his shoulder, it contained all the essentials for this mission, as well as his favorite modified tricorder. He stopped whistling and looked to the two women who stood before him. "Lieutenant, Doctor," he said, addressing the two women. "Looking forward to our adventure?" Rehman asked, now bouncing on the balls of his feet.

“Always interesting to encounter and get a look at a new species” Doctor Clark said with a smile. The Federation had encountered many unknown species of alien in its tenure but those in the Delta Quadrant were far from home and had the potential to be very interesting.

Barely a moment after Clark spoke, the doors hissed open once again. Joseph stepped in to the Transporter Room. His shoulders back, head held high. He felt like what his father used to speak of when he was a child. He looked to the others and nodded his head "Alright. How are we feeling right now? Ready to make history?"

“Yes sir” Doctor Clark said with a smile on her face. She had never been on an away team with Lieutenant Commander Sledge in the lead but she knew what was expected of her as a physician and a Starfleet Officer. Once the initial team beamed over there would be additional officers that would beam over.

Sledge nodded his head to Clark and looked to the others. He spoke "Remember. This is still a First Contact situation. Keep those weapons holstered until absolutely necessary. And for Prophets sakes, don't let them Pakled you like La Forge did all those years ago..."

T'Lar inclined her head in acknowledgement of the standing orders, moving to check her tricorder next.

Rehman nodded, though he had questions. Like first and foremost, how did LaForge allow himself to be Pakled? Though the question burned on his tongue, he held back, knowing now was not the place, nor time to ask. At that, he rifled through his memory at who this LaForge even was, when it didn't come to him automatically, he shrugged. Also, he wasn't keen on wearing a phaser again. He of course knew it was away team protocol at this point; and he quadrupled to make sure it was on stun. He certainly hoped they would not have to use the weapon, but there was a part of him that was relieved he had it... maybe. "Itchin' to go, sir," Rehman said, as he resisted from once again bouncing on the balls of his feet.

Joseph gave a curt nod as he looked between everyone. He had noted the confusion on Rehman's face at the mention of La Forge and the Pakleds. He filed that away to tell him about it later. Finally he turned to the Transporter chief and spoke "Got the coordinates Chief?"

The man nodded as his hands tapped away on the console "Ready and waiting sir. Just give the word."

Another nod from Joseph and he made his way up on to the pad first. He turned and stood on the forward most circle. He looked to the others and spoke "As a character from a 20th Century character once said, "Allons y! French for lets go!" He grinned to the group, hoping the levity would relax them some.

The Assistant Chief Medical Officer had no idea what Joseph was referring to, but she smiled as she walked past him and stood behind him on the transporter pad.

"Earth broadcast, BBC, circa 14, June 2008 if I am not mistaken" T'Lar replied.

Doctor Clark had no clue what they were talking about but she was ready to get to the Khelvari ship and start this away mission. Her med kit over her shoulder and a phaser holstered on her hip.

As he settled on the transporter pad, Rehman found himself shrugging at what was being said. It was another Earth twenty-first pop culture he totally didn't get. But that was okay, he filed it away to look up later, there was never any harm in learning a new fact. Anyway... he mused to himself.

Joseph looked between them all, seeing that T'Lar was the only one that got it. His shoulders slumped a bit before he mounted the transporter pad and spoke "Alright folks. lets get to it." Before waiting for the others to get in to position. Once they were, he nodded to the Chief "Energize Chief." His hand resting on his Tricorder.

—— Khelvari Science Vessel——

A member of the Khelvari crew stood patiently waiting. Hands folded behind her back and a peaceful smile on her face. The room was filled with scientific equipment much of that equipment was the technology that allowed them to travel vast distances so quickly. The smile on the female aliens face grew wider with the blue shimmer of the Federation transporter beam. “Welcome, I am Representative Linea vas’Tav.”

Once the static vision of the transporter beam dissipated and his hearing returned, Joseph looked to the Khelvari that greeted them. He stepped forward and nodded his head as he spoke "Lieutenant Commander Joseph Sledge. This is my team, Lieutenants T'Lar.." He nodded his head to the half Vulcan female, Science Officer Rehman.." Nodding to the man, "And Doctor Clark." Nodding to her as well. He turned back to Linea and spoke once more "How may we be of assistance?"

The Khelvari Representative replied politely “Speaker Aesohel var-Khel has left orders to get acquainted with your people and to assist in your studies and diagnostics of our propulsion, engines and other vital technology.” Aseohel gestured to a console in the large Khelvari engine room. While the small group approached the console “I believe in return your Captain has agreed to share some of your medical supplies and any non-classified information you’ve gathered on the Delta Quadrant.”

Joseph gave Aesohel a nod and spoke "Yes. That is what our Captain has agreed to. Thank you for hosting us." He turned his head towards T'Lar and gave a subtle nod to her, as if to say go ahead and scan.

T'Lar pulled her Tricorder and conducted a security scan of the immediate area. Once the scan was complete, she closed the tricorder and replaced it in its holster. She tapped her Combadge and spoke. "T'Lar to Concord, You may transport the Medical supplies now."

As the Transporter chief start to send the supplies, Joseph held up a PADD and spoke to Aesohel "This PADD contains the information that we have on the Delta Quadrant. I do hope that it helps you and your people." He gave a smile to the Representative, hoping that it wouldn't be taken as an aggressive gesture.

“Thank you, Commander” the Khelvari representative said taking the PADD and giving a slight nod. “We will work mostly from this station, Commander, but I think your doctor would be best used in our medical facility where the supplies have been transported.”

Doctor Clark gave a nod to her superior before she and one of the Federation Security Officers left the room headed for the med bay. Her orders were to help organize the supplies and offer any assistance she could with out violations to the prime directive.

Watching Dr Clark move off with a member of their Security detachment, Joseph turned back to the representative. He nodded once and spoke to the man "So. What can I get my hands dirty with? I promise I am somewhat decent with a hyperspanner."

The Khelvari representative, Linea vas’Tav smiled and gestured to a nearby console. “We will have to run simulations to make sure your technology is comparable as the process requires a vast amount of energy.” The representative activated a small screen to show the Starfleet officers how the process works. “We think we can adjust and add to your current technology.” The representative activated a small screen to show the Starfleet officers how the process works. On the screen a Khelvari science vessel approached the sun of a system and shortly after launched a probe type device. “As you can see we have found a way to drain the energy of a sun or star.” Not long after the device entered the sun a beam started draining the suns energy.

Joseph had followed the representative to the closest console. He had taken his tricorder out to record the information that was being displayed for him as the representative spoke. "I am sure we can figure out how to make our technology compatible. Starfleet technology is pretty robust and synergetic with other technology." He continued to record until he watched the probe start to drain the star of its energy "Do you drain the star completely? Or just enough to power what you need? Do you also check to make sure the system isn't inhabited?" His questions seemed to come out in rather rapid fire sequence.

Representative Linea vas’Tav turned from the small view screen and started to speak but there was a brief pause before Linea answered the Lieutenant Commanders question. “Well every circumstance is different, usually we take every precaution. Including full sensor sweeps and often visual reconnaissance” he knew that there had been times when his people were less cautious, especially in war time.

Sledge's brow perked up at the Representative's pause before he started to answer the question. The pause gave Joseph pause before he looked to the displays. After a moment he spoke "And what about this system?" His head turning just a bit towards Linea, looking to the man, though it could have been construed as a side eye.

“This is only a computer simulation” the Khelvari representative re-assured the two Starfleet officers he was working with. “The system we are making way to for testing the compatibility to your vessels systems” he pulled up their long range scans done by other Khelvari vessels “well we believe it to be uninhabited, however the Speaker insists on getting our own scans once we are in range.”

Being Half Vulcan,T'Lar was fascinated by the science of the demonstration, despite not following the Scientific track. "fascinating. What is the storage capacity of the device we are looking at? How did you did you solve the inherent risk to any object holding orbit so close to a Sun's corona?"

Joseph gave a bit of a nod as he focused on the console before him, watching the simulation and reading the data that was coming across the screen. He tilted his head a bit more and furrowed his brow some. The Khelvari representative had given him a satisfactory answer, but something dug in the back of his mind. He said nothing though, instead looking the his Half Vulcan teammate and watching her fascination with the data. He admired her ability to focus on it.

Rehman stood there and watched the simulation carefully, aware of the conversation going on around him. He listened to the basic questions that Commander Sledge was asking, and he barely restrained himself from rolling his eyes at hearing the half-Vulcan security officer say, 'fascinating.' The science officer tilted his head in thought before he spoke. "This is some pretty tip-top technology you have here," Rehman said. "But a couple of things: one, what kind of polymers are you using on these probes to funnel so much energy? What is the time frame in which the probe can sustain the radiation?" He paused a moment then continued, "even Starfleet probes have their limits." Rehman turned now and looked at the group. "When you say non-inhabited are you accounting for all life?"

Joseph's brow furrowed a bit as he listened to Rehman. He looked to the Lieutenant and spoke "Of course I mean that. I am remembering the Regula I amendment to the Prime Directive, Lieutenant." His brow maintaining its furrow as he gave the somewhat concealed dressing down to the ships Chief Science Officer. It was something that was constantly drilled in to him by his Admiral parents as a child.

“I” the Khelvari froze in his tracks and looked at the two Star Fleet officers. “It’s a synthetic that one of the Khelvari allies develop on their home plan” before the representative could finish his personal communication device chimed and the voice coming from the wrist device ordered “representative vas-Tav to main observation room.” With a soft bow the representative apologized “I apologize I have to go assist with this matter. You are welcome to continue your scans and simulation until I return but you shall remain on this decision.”

Rehman wasn't sure why the commander had gotten so touchy, especially when his inquiries were meant for the Khelvari. However, since Sledge was his superior, he decided not to push the issue further - at least for now. Instead, Rehman gave a quick nod. He now wanted to focus on this synthetic, which was such a broad term for about a thousand different polymers. Rehman looked to Sledge then and asked, "permission to begin simulations, sir?"

Sledge looked to Rehman when the Khelvari representative left. He sighed gently and nodded as he looked around some "Yeah.. Go ahead Lieutenant. Sorry about that. I thought your question was directed at me.. Its been a long day obviously" He gave Rehman a sheepish grin as he opened his tricorder again to help get data from the simulations.

The apology was nice, but in the long run not needed. "It's alright, sir, I understand," Rehman said. He went to the console and opened up his tricorder in order to get a translation of the controls that stood before him. He then started to tap away, hoping to get more information about the Khelvari technology.

Sledge gave the Lieutenant a gentle clap on the arm and grinned a bit "Let's do our best here, eh? Make the Captain proud." before he too started to record everything that they could about the tech and the simulation being run.
