Mission: Mission 3 - Discord of the Mind
Location: Deck 1 | Bridge | USS Concord

Captain Tyler Driskill sat in the center chair on the bridge of the Nebula-class USS Concord staring intently at the view screen. He wasn't normally one to worry, but he was worried about the members of the away team he had sent to the Borg sphere. From what they could tell from scans the Borg vessel was derelict and the drone were all inactive. However you never knew when that might all change and those drone reanimate "still have that transporter lock on the away team" he asked wanting to make sure they could get their people out at a moments notice.

After checking the transporter lock that he had on the away team, Joseph spoke to the Captain "I got a lock on them all sir. Even using a skeletal lock. Theoretically I can keep a lock on them, even if they were sitting on the transwarp coils."

"Very good mister Sledge" Tyler replied with a slight smile on his face. He knew his people had a lot going on right now. Half of his senior staff were on the Borg ship and the rest of the bridge crew were working on locating the asteroids that contained the most abundant source of the resources they came here to harvest. Captain Driskill didn't really like departing from their original mission that had them looking for the USS Voyager but he was no fool and knew they should investigate such great areas of resources they may need.

Before Captain Driskill had the opportunity to ask his next question there was an alarm from the tactical station, which was being manned by the Assistant Chief of Security and Tactical T'Lar. "Report" was the one word that came from the center of the bridge.

T'Lar raised an eyebrow as she scanned the alerted sensor contact her console had flagged. "Captain. Sensors have confirmed that A vessel is on an intercept course. The Computer identifies it as a Hirogen Hunting vessel. Their weapon systems are charged and their shields are up."

"What can you tell me about their ship and how long until they are in weapons range, Lieutenant" the Captain needed T'Lar's answers quickly and with the most accurate information she could give him.

"The Vessel is Comparable in size and mass to the Concorde; however, their weapons systems are significantly more.... lethal. Sensor coverage appears minimal in their aft quarter, suggesting a potential tactical exploit. The Vessel will be within weapons range in 90 seconds."

"Hail them" the Captain ordered and waited for the channel to be open.

The Half Vulcan accessed the Communications suite. "Channel Open"

Captain Driskill gave a nod to his officer and remained seated "this is Captain Tyler Driskill of the USS Concord we are on a peaceful mission." The Captain waited a few seconds for a response and when he received nothing he tried again. "This is the USS Concord please respond" he wanted this to be resolved peacefully but since the Hirogen ship's weapons were charged he wasn't sure he would get any type of response. Standing from his chair at this point he took a few steps forward toward the view screen, which had now changed to show the incoming alien ship "are they receiving our hail?"

"The Channel is open sir. They ARE receiving our transmission" T'Lar replied.

"Red Alert" Tyler ordered with a nod to the woman at the tactical station. Making his way back to his chair he prepared for battle as the Hirogen ship was closing on their location and less than a minute away.

Her hands danced over the tactical console and the lights around the bridge dimmed, replaced by an eerie red glow and claxons. "Phasers are charged. Fore and aft Torpedo launchers are loaded. Backup shield generators are on standby."

Probably more manuverable than the Concord Captain Driskill thought to himself. The Hirogen ship was closing in on the Concordand fast. "How long until they are in weapons range" Driskill asked the Lieutenant at the tactical station.

"Fifteen seconds to weapons range." T'Lar called out. Her Console sensors, switching to short range and the targeting sensors taking over.

“Try hailing th” before the Captain could ask T’Lar to hail the Hirogen agin the bridge shook and the low level lighting flickered after the Concord was hit with a beam that lit up the view screen. “Report” Captain Driskill gripped the arms of his chair as the bridge shook again.

T'Lar checked her station. A single eyebrow raised. "Captain. Weapons and targeting sensors are offline. Shields are at 15%"

Things had went bad and fast “evasive maneuvers” Driskill called out even though he knew the large ship would have issues in the asteroids.

"Aye, Captain..." Skye nodded from her place at the helm, doing her best to balance evasion with safety as they made a pass that was far too close for comfort of an asteroid. The ship managed to escape the ire of the next blast of energy from the Hirogen vessel, but it wasn't so lucky on the following round.

The ship shook again “auxiliary power to shields” Tyler called out. “I need those weapons back mister Sledge.”

"Captain, If i may?" T'Lar called out. "I believe I have enough power available to Polarize the hull and further minimize the weapons fire enough to buy us a minute or two to restore auxiliary power."

Joseph's hands were flying over his console after having brought himself back upright from the last shake of the Bridge. He growled out loud and spoke "I'm working on it Cap!" He monitored the lock on the away team and called out "if we go too much further I will lose full acquisition of signal on the away team! I won't be able to guarantee a safe transport!"

“Do it T’Lar. Mister Sledge let’s make getting those weapons and defensive systems back online
“ Captain Driskill needed some kind of upper hand until they were able to fight again. He also knew that if a choice had to be made the lives of the entire crew would have to put weigh those on the away team. However he wasn’t tossing in the towel yet “try and keep one of those asteroids in between us and the Hirogen ship.”

"On it," Vos was already weaving the ship on a not so delicate path behind one of the larger asteroids. It went against all natural instincts to put them in such a precarious position, but needs must.

Joseph let out a soft "Fuck.." Barely audible over the din of battle on the Bridge. He growled a bit and let the target lock be alone, shifting his focus to bringing the weapons and shields back online. His hands flew quickly over his console, growling a bit as another weapon hit from the Hirogen made him miss a critical button, making him slow his work. "Shields should be coming back soon! At least the secondary generators! The primary ones need a real touch from engineering!"

T'Lar's hands danced over the tactical console, rerouting power from the secondary shield generators, temporarily to Polarize the hull. The Tactic was old and marginally effective at best in modern Starship combat; but the polarization in combination with the back up shields should give them at least enough time to get weapons and primary shields back online. "Hull Polarization complete. Secondary shield generators online. Shield strength is at.... Stand by.." She tapped several keys on the security panel on the combined security/ tactical station. "Captain. Internal sensors are picking up Hirogen life signs on board. Deck 22, shuttlebay 2"

The ship shook again causing a console on the bridge to explode, sending sparks and the Ensign working that console flying. Captain Driskill quickly made his way over to check on the young man “bridge to sickbay medical emergency”

"Sickbay here, doing a site to site transport," Gaeta's voice came through before he appeared on the bridge. He looked at the chaos around him that, in all fairness, did reflect the situation in sickbay. He went to the man who was clearly wounded on the ground, kneeling and running his medical tricorder over him to assess the damage.

The away team had not been privy to what was going on outside of the wrevkage of the Borg Sphere, but once Nokumara had brought his 'Queen' program online he relayed information to Gulati.

"Gulati to Concord," she said standing in the middle of a Borg junction. "What's with the fireworks out there? Nokamura just informed me we have an uninvited guest to my rummage sale."

"That's right Commander" the Captain was reviewing tactical data on the ship "we are gonna be a little busy, you okay holding out over there?"

Several Hirogen beamed aboard. They found Sparta. They laughed, "Call for back up, little man."

Sparta grinned, "Intruder alert. Computer, play Bring in the Thunder." It began to play everywhere there was a functional audio system.

Sparta took off running towards them. He was fighting with every bit of his lineage. This raiding party that found him, wasn't having a good day.

Joseph's fingers danced across his console several times once the beam struck the ship. The panel died out and he growled a bit, tapping a few more times before punching it. He pushed the console to swing away with force as he stood up "Seems all systems are down Captain. They hit us with some sort of Subnucleonic Beam. Engines and navigational sensors are down." Just as he finished that sentence, some sort of version of classical music started blaring from the speakers on the bridge "What the hell?"

"Ah!" Vos covered her ears at the loud noise, swearing at the assault on her sensitive hearing. She tried to get the conn to respond, but it gave her nothing. Traitor. "Captain, whatever it was, we've lost all response at Helm..."

Tyler had armed himself "arm your selves" the Captain ordered. "Joseph get this ship back online. At the very least we need engines and life support." Captain Driskill could tell they were slowly drifting and all they needed was to crash into one of the asteroids.

Joseph had already grabbed the Type II Phaser that was normally strapped underneath the console that he sat at, while his free hand danced across the nearly dead display. "I can't do shit from here sir! Whatever the hell that scan was, it's disrupted almost every control I have!" practically shouting over the speakers.

"Turn this" Captain Driskill gestured toward the celling "whatever this is off, can we at least do that?"

Going back to his console, Joseph tapped a few icons on the screen. As soon as the last keystroke was typed on the screen, the music ended, at least on the bridge. He spoke "I canceled it out on decks 1 through 4. The rest are still going."

T'Lar arms herself from a small arms locker inside the tactical console stand. She sets the phaser to heavy stun then takes aim at one of the Hirogen. She fired. The phaser beam makes contact square against the intruders chest and causes him to stumble back a step but does not appear to have any lasting effect. "Heavy stun has little effect. Recommend setting Phasers to kill sir."

Joseph reached under the console that he was at, finding the compartment that held a Type II phaser. He pulled it out and keyed in his code on the controls. He then proceeded to set it to kill until he felt a Tetryon blast whoosh right past his head. He dodged away, rolling and missing the butt of the Hirogen's weapon as he shouted "What I wouldn't give for a fucking Mek'Leth right now!" Before managing to get a wild aim on the large man and pressing the trigger on the Phaser. However, the quick burst only seemed to damage the armor, breaking it down on the Hirogen's shoulder.

Skye's eyes widened as she caught sight of one of the intruders. They were huge. A lot bigger than her at any rate. Her half Vulcan heritage made her stronger than the average human her size, but a quick glance at the damage they were doing made it clear they were strong and tough as nails. She tried to get a response from the helm, but it was still stubbornly refusing. She ducked just in time, sliding out of her seat entirely to take cover behind her station, grabbing her phaser.

The Hirogen had turned towards Joseph fully by this point, taking aim once again with its Tetryon Rifle. As he took another shot, Joseph managed to dive and roll away from it in the finest of Starfleet tradition. He managed to come up from his console, taking yet another wild shot at him. This beam however missed its head, instead exploding a light strip and causing a shower of sparks.

With the distraction from the sparking light strip Captain Driskill set his phaser to a high level of power, but still in stun he managed to hit the intruder in the lower back with a blast from his phaser. One of the security officer that had made it to the bridge took the opportunity and fired at the same time hitting the Hirogen in the shoulder causing him to drop his weapon and stumble a bit. “How much does it take to take one of these bastards down” there was another shot from Tyler’s phaser on the highest of stun settings again hitting the alien in the back. This time he fell to the floor and as he did Captain Driskill pulled himself off the floor and made sure there were no more on the bridge.

Skye let out a long, shaking breath, rocking back on her heels and pulling herself back into her chair. She caught her breath, pushing black hair out of her face as she tried to will her heartbeat back to normal. "I'm still locked out of the controls!" she called across the bridge.

Before Driskill could say anything there was a shimmer and the stunned intruder was beamed off the bridge. The crew didn’t know it yet but for whatever reason the Hirogen ship took their people and left the asteroid field. “Mister Sledge let’s get our systems back online and our people back. I don’t think we should be hanging around for our friends to come back.”
